What is Mochileros Camp?

"Mochilero" means backpacker in Spanish, someone who travels with curiosity and essential tools on their back. In our summer program, children become young explorers who travel across Latin America, using language, creativity, and culture as their compass.

The Mochileros Camp is a 100% Spanish immersion experience where students learn through cooking, art, music, storytelling, and hands-on cultural activities.

Each week, we explore one or more countries and their rich traditions.

No passport required!

WEEK-BY-WEEK SCHEDULE

WEEK 1

June 16 - 20

Magical Mexico – Piñatas, Volcanoes, and Fun

We begin our summer journey in Mexico, a country full of vibrant colors, flavors, and traditions. Children will create their own lucha libre puppets, decorate and break piñatas, play traditional games like lotería, prepare guacamole, and learn legends like that of the volcanoes Popocatépetl and Iztaccíhuatl.
Through art, movement, and cooking, children will naturally absorb Spanish vocabulary and simple expressions while discovering the heart of Mexican culture.

WEEK 2

June 23 - 27

Amazon Rainforest Explorers

We explore the Amazon region of Colombia, Peru, and Ecuador—one of the most biodiverse and awe-inspiring ecosystems in the world. Children will learn about jungle animals, amazing plants, and Indigenous cultures that have lived there for centuries.
They’ll create tribal masks, build a terrarium, do science experiments, and go on a sensory “eco-safari.” A week of nature, science, and creativity that sparks curiosity and builds Spanish naturally.

WEEK 3

June 30 - July 3

Caribbean Carnival: Cuba, Puerto Rico & Dominican Republic

We dance our way through the carnivals of Cuba, Puerto Rico, and the Dominican Republic. Children will create festive masks like the Marimonda, learn dances like salsa and mapalé, build musical instruments, and hear magical Caribbean stories.
This week is all about rhythm, culture, and joy, offering a rich, fun way to practice Spanish while celebrating the diversity of the Afro-Caribbean world.

WEEK 4

July 7 - 11

Andes Explorers – Llamas, Colors, and Adventures

This week we travel to the mountains of Peru, Bolivia, and Ecuador to explore life, art, and traditions from the Andes. Children will create colorful crafts, learn about animals like llamas, explore amazing landscapes like volcanoes, and take part in fun food-related activities inspired by the region.
They’ll also enjoy traditional stories and explore patterns inspired by Andean designs. It’s a week full of creativity, play, and discovery—perfect for learning Spanish while exploring a new culture in a fun and simple way.

WEEK 5

July 14 –18

Southern Landscapes – Fossils, Colors, and Starry Skies

This week we explore the unique landscapes of southern South America, inspired by the desert regions of Chile and Argentina. Children will become little scientists and artists as they explore desert colors, learn about stars in the night sky, and discover traces of the past through fossils and ancient art.
They’ll take part in hands-on science and art projects using natural materials, participate in fun discovery games, and create visual pieces inspired by real cave paintings from the region.
It’s a week of curiosity and creativity—perfect for learning Spanish while exploring the wonders of nature and history in a way that’s fun, simple, and exciting for kids.

WEEK 6

July 21– 25

Colombia and Beyond – A Celebration of Masks, Rhythm, and Color

We wrap up the summer with a joyful cultural celebration full of music, art, storytelling, and movement. Inspired by the traditions of Colombia, Venezuela, and Panama, children will explore colorful creations, energetic rhythms, and magical stories.
They’ll design bright carnival masks like those from Barranquilla, learn fun dances such as cumbia and joropo, and hear magical legends with exciting characters. They’ll also explore traditional designs and patterns, and take part in a final showcase to celebrate all they’ve learned.
It’s a fun and expressive week—perfect for ending the summer with creativity, confidence, and a deeper connection to Spanish and Latin American culture.
